24v sending unit on 12v system
    Post by m715jeep25 on Oct 26, 2006, 8:05pm

I'm installing a complete new 12v wiring harness in my 715 and wonder what my options are with the fuel sending unit. I'm sure my old one (24v original) is bad. Is there a 12v replacement or if I buy a NOS is there a way to use the 24v sender on the 12v system and have an accurate reading?

    Thanks,

    Roger

The 12v sender might come as a package deal with your new 12v fuel gauge. If not, buy one that matches and be happy as a clam to have a working fuel gauge!

Since the gauge and the sending unit MUST be matched in the scale they use and the military sending unit uses a unique to the military scale, no, you cant use the stock uel sending unit with any known 12 volt gauge and ge it to read right....

If you setup the fuel gauge and sending unit with 24 volts on the 12 volt system, unsing a power converter, you could as both the stock units would be on the same scale...but thats probably not what you want to do...

You can get a gauge and sending unit from Napa as a set, part number #501-1742, for around $30.00 last I checked.
