Thread: what sort of fuel mileage is everyone getting?

i am just curious as to what everyone is getting for fuel mileage. and how it all compares up with the setup they have.

i get 7-10 mpg with stock gears, 305 TBI and 700r4. i am just wandering what the best setups are out there when it comes to economy. with fuel prices rising so high this may be a major factor to consider in future upgrades.

    thanks

Wow Brian, I would have figured more than that. My carbed 300-6 gets about 10 freeway and I'd hope a touch more around town. I want to swap to EFI and I figured it would bump me up to 14 or 15. Maybe not considering your results.

Mine's got a ford 351M V8 in it with a 2100 2bbl carb and I get a whopping 6.5 mpg. I'll try rebulding the carb but I doubt it will help.

I get a little over 12 on the highway with a 230 engine, 2 barrel carb, civvy ignition, stock everything else including tire size.

What model and year of truck did you get your 2 barrel carb and intake from? I would consider adding that to mine if I found one cheap at a junk yard.

I found a 230 in a civvy truck, 65 model, that I got the carb, intake and distrib all from...I will note here that the 63 and 64 230's came with a 2300 series Holley 2 barrel and the 65 came with a 2415 series...I know its easy to get the rebuild stuff for the earlier one and harder for mine...but as long as it is working good, who cares!!

    Joel,
i got my two barrel intake and used carb from arizona jeep recyclers. found them on the web. i think the set up cost me 100 dollars. Direct bolt on, big difference. There is also Scotty's 4x4 in sothern california. Lst time i was there (six months ago) they had a few old J-2000's with the 230. They would have them too, but are much pricier. I would use these guys as a last resort.
