M715 Generator vs one-wire Alternator
Post by joesco715 on Dec 11, 2006, 7:53pm Folks, I would like some advice with regards to the charging system of the 715. My 715 which has the Hercules Diesel conversion has the stock Generator. When I had my two M37's, one of the first mods I made was to convert the charging system to a one-wire delco alternator which greatly improved the charging system on the trucks. Does this hold true for the 715's or should I leave well-enough alone? Thanks for any comments or suggestions!!! Merry Christmas to all. |

Re: M715 Generator vs one-wire Alternator
Post by k8icu on Dec 11, 2006, 10:06pm The M715 has a altinator not a generator and voltage regulator like the M715 has. If it's working I'd leave it alone. |

Re: M715 Generator vs one-wire Alternator
Post by gimpyrobb on Dec 11, 2006, 11:50pm Mine was dead when I got it. I'm now running a 24v onewire @ 100amps. Kind of pricey at 250.00. |

Re: M715 Generator vs one-wire Alternator
Post by adk4x4 on Dec 12, 2006, 8:36am For the Technical guys, the M-715's were fitted with 28V, 60amp alternators. The difference is what's "generated" in the coil. alternating current AC or direct current DC. AC is then rectified to DC in alternaor. The question you need to ask is what will I be doing with my 715? - primary offroad with deep fording option -> stick with stock -everyday driver, staying 24v not much water -> consider modern 24v alt when stock craps out. Either way I would cross that bridge when you come to it. Some repairs to the stock alt are not that hard or expensive either. |
