Default New stock master cylinder needed...

Where can I get a new stock master cylinder - can one be picked up at Advanced Auto, Autozone, Pep Boys etc. or am I limited to getting one at Memphis or AB?

I don't want to use a new old stock one that has 40 year old rubber seals in it!

If i can get one at the local store, anyone have a part number?

I am not going to upgrade to the vette master, been there done that.

    Thanks!

Wow...I am going to use that NAPA number at Advanced to see if its cheaper there...$100 for it is crazy. I can get it rebuilt for probably $40 at a local guy who rebuilds anything for cars/trucks.

If your old one is in decent shape, then you can probably get the kit for the same part# master cylinder from NAPA and rebuild what you have.

Were it me, I'd do the dual M/C upgrade though for peace of mind. Cheaper too.

DaveJ found that the stock master rebuild kit is:

    Napa UP 236

Last post in this thread has pics of the kit:

Last I looked NAPA had the rebuild kits for around $15.

You can get a non correct looking M/C that will work fine for around $15 from advanced. I've got one on my 63 for my brakes, and an M715 style for my clutch.
