Is there anything easier/ better about swapping in a chevy dana 70 rather than the 14 bolt?

Also there used to be a write up or two about swaping in a dana 44 8 lug axle into the front and I was thinking bout doing that until I could spring for the chevy 60. If anyone has a link that would be sweet.

the d-70 rear may be too wide as it was installed in dually trucks with factory pickup beds only. the cab and chassis one tons with dual rears got 14 bolt rears that are more narrow than a single wheel 14 bolt.

This is not entirely correct. The dana 70 could have been had in lots of single wheel trucks. Older F-350's, newer Dodges, and more. The width of the single wheel dana 70's should be fine for our trucks.

The brake drum interferance with the required spring location issue might not apply to the wider axle also. Just a thought.

The width on this one is 67.5 but it has much narrower drums than a 14bolt.

This is a very good point! And the 14 bolt uses atleast 3 different sizes of brake shoes. I have always felt a 14 bolt out of a van would be the perfect rear for tha 715 because of the 3 inches extra width.

Frapguy used a 70 out of an early 70's Ford 15- passenger van.

I've got all the info written down at home, year, width and so on if anyone is interested.

However, I won't be home until Monday... so hope you aren't tooo interested.

If you use one out of a dodge, or some ford vans, you will also get the driveshaft out of the gas tank. Slightly offset.

BWB, I knew other companies offered a single wheel version, but he asked about the chevy version.
