    I have one of these laying around and from what I've read, they're pretty good engines. Anybody have an opin or experience with 'em?

    I bet it would be easy to put in your truck, plenty of room. I like them, does it have HEI and TBI?

    I put a Jeep engine in mine a 258, not enough room for a mechanical radiator fan.

    Hey Wrecker? I had one of those motors in a pick up, WOW! it had tons of torque, much more than the 350 sbc I had in my Blazer. I thought the plug placement was cool, if I remember, I think they even had a v-6 in the 401ci size. One other thing I remember is I think I read that the v-6 or at least the 305 had some vibration issues, and it was designed to be a low rev engine. I think the one I had even had a governor. Hope this helps, my memory is going so it might be info from another motor. Good luck.

    X, I'm talking about an GMC old v-6. This one's a 1968. I was thinking of scrapping it but I keep hearing good things about them. Here's some info.

    GMC produced a unique 60? V6 V6 engine from 1960 through 1978. The engine was available in 305, 351, 401 and 478 in? (5.0, 5.8, 6.6, and 7.8 L) version. In late production there was also a 432 in? (7.1 L) version with enlarged crankshaft journals. GM also made a 637 in? (10.4 L) 60? V8 with twin balance shafts using the same general layout as the 305. Finally, there was a 702 in? (11.5 L) "Twin Six" V12, which was basically two 351s placed end-to-end and was used in full-sized commercial trucks. A Diesel version was sold for marine applications as the ToroFlow.

    305
    The 305 in? (5.0 L) 305 had a 4.25 in (107.9 mm) bore. The 305 V6 was the standard pickup truck engine for GMC from 1960 to 1966, and was one of the first V6 engines produced by an American company.

    The 351 in? (5.8 L) 351 was an enlarged 305.

    The engine was further enlarged for the 401 in? (6.6 L) 401. this engine was used in the 67 model

    478
    The 477.7 in? (7.8 L) 478 was one of the largest V6 engines ever built. Gross output was 235 hp (175 kW) at 3200 rpm and 440 ft.lbf (597 Nm) at 1400 rpm. Bore was 5.125 in (130.2 mm) and stroke was 3.86 in (98 mm). It was introduced in 1963 in the 6500 series trucks.

    It was superseded by the 1966 478M "Magnum" series, and production ended by 1974. Gross output was now 254 hp (189 kW) at 3700 rpm and 442 ft.lbf (599 Nm) at 1400 rpm.

    702
    The massive 702 in? (11.5 L) V12 "Twin Six" was offered in United States GMC commercial trucks, and as a special order option in Canada. It was simply a pair of 351 in? (5.8 L) V6 engines mated together. It used two separate exhaust manifolds, two separate distributors, and other parts from the 351.

    Well I don't know anything about that engine but I tend to like older engines because many of them were made better than some of the modern junk.

    478" v6? Think that will fit under the hood of my Blazer?? That would be cool! 60deg? With open headers would you sound like 3 HD's in unison?

    Dear God whatever you do don't scrap it. If you don't want it somebody sure will. They are fine old motors and torque monsters to say the least. They do have vibration issues, though. My dad coughed the one in our '63 at around 150k. Wound it too tight one time too many. "Tight" being around 4 grand if I remember right(I was like 9 years old, but anyway).

    Good motor for the size and age. Friend has a 63 with 90 grand on it, and works great. Torquey, but not the most powerfull or responsive engine.

    I've still got this puppy if someone's interested. Remember, the price is FREE. Also, Ill be heading to Tooele, Utah looks like on Labor day weekend, so delivery is possible in the general travel vicinity, however, I have to keep rolling so I really don't have the luxury of a nice visit. More of a drop and hop type of delivery. Travel route is Fort Smith, Arkansas, Tulsa, Ok, Wichita, Salina, and Hays, Kansas. Denver, then up to I-80 on the normal Tacoma express route, but I may head north from Hays to I-80 instead of Denver. Bill

    Woops, this threads so old, I thought I was adding to the For Sale section. Sorry. Anyhow, it's available with or without SM 420 tranny and has blown head gasket. If the mods would move the post, that'd be great. Bill
