Thread: linked suspension

    Default linked suspension

Quick question. I am looking to junk the closed knuckle, super low gear, drum axles. I have a set of Chubby axles with discs all the way around, already trussed from another project 14 bolt, and 60 front. With the aftermarket support of link suspension systems, I am shocked to find no M715 owners not doing this. The military wrapped springs are kind of worn (all bushings shot). I want to pull it in and start cutting out the old suspension and axles but am a little weary to start and find out some obvious cause that I should have seen before hand. Has anybody tried this, or is there something obvious that I am missing?

Speaking only for myself. Cost and need versus want have kept me from doing any more than just thinking about it.

I haul and tow with my M715 as well as make long road trips. The truck is super stable doing all 3. With the hydroboost and dual line master cylinder, I can lock up the tires at any speed if I push hard enough. With a rear locker I have never really worried about flex when off road. If I want the truck to cruise down the highway smoother, I just let a few pounds of air out of the tires. I have no need to change just to change. Others may feel different.

You go for it and take lots of pictures if you want. I seem to remember a guy out in Arizona starting such a project. The truck I am building for Sermis had the leaf spring mounts cut off by the previous owner so he could build a 4 link in front. I also think a guy in the LA area was doing this at some point in time as well.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

Cool, sounds good. It will take me a minute to acquire all the necessary parts to do it, but when I start the project I will post pictures of my progress and let everyone know how it turns out.

Yep....Thought I had seen a couple link/coil projects, but just not worth the effort for what I want the truck for...
    Is that real money?
