I know you aren't supposed to rely on park anyway to hold a vehicle, and should apply the handbrake, but I never understood the omission of that. I also recall early automatics in most passenger cars also did not have a park position until the early to mid 60's or so. I figured that back then, it was just because they hadn't come up with the idea yet or it was too expensive.
I think the biggest problem for commercials is the weight. Another issue for commercial vehicles, is that the Tranny manufacturer really has no idea what size vehicle you are mounting that transmission, and including a parking pawl could potentially open them up to liability. Simply not including the pawl, places all the liability on the vehicle manufacturer, to insure that the parking brake is sufficient to hold the vehicle in place.

Is that going to rev high enough to go over 40mph with stock axles?

Oh yeah......factory gearing in the truck it came out of was 5.10. It would easily do 70 mph. That is also dragging 20k lbs. I have no doubt it will work fine. I can always re-gear or swap axles if needed. I am going to let the truck tell me what it needs.

Dahoyle----my game plan is to reverse build the drivetrain into the frame. Leave my header panel on the frame and work backwards with the cab off the truck. Then install everything as tight as I can, until I run out of room. I got to go and look at a 3116 today and measure it. From what i can tell I am only going to be about 4 inches shy. A body lift will help relieve some of the height and length problems. After seeing the motor today I feel alot better about it fitting. The picture makes it look huge, but it's not that big. Engine and transmission overall was only 56". I also found a cool intercooler at the salvage yard that I will try to incorporate if I have room. Cat mechanic told me today that it wasn't needed, but would help make a few more horses. Snakeater
