    Default Reverse Lights

If you look really close at my avitar, you can see that I have both red tail lights on my roll bar and white lights. I plan on making the white lights a switched on and off bed light. I would also like to make them come on when I put my yet to be installed NV4500 in reverse.

    Which would be better?

Ground the lights, power to light switch and power to reverse switch on trans, or make the switches the ground and the light have a permanant 12v + supply.

Thanks, I know that this is a simple thing, I am just looking for justification or a nessesity to do it differently than my first option above.

The common way to do it: Ground the lights, power to light switch and power to reverse switch on trans.

Wish I had an answer for you: but don't. Your question made me wonder about the T98A and a backup light switch. I've seen references to one in discussions re civilian version: any way to put one on ours?

1st I get an X for you avatar so I can't look at your truck..2nd. If your truck is - ground keep it that way...switch the + lead and keep the ground constant.

install a relay too to power the lights so you dont stress the reverse switch so much do it like you would when you hook up off road lights except run it thru the reverse switch to trigger the relay.

I was planning on running the switches hot and the light permanently grounded. Thanks for reinforcing that thinking.

The relay thing has me thinking. You are suggesting that I run the toggle switch and the reverse switch into the same wire as the 12v + that closes the relay. The closed relay would then connect the lights to the 12v+ they need to come on. Right?

This is how I did a 62 Jeep pickup when the owner wanted the switch option.

Sorry, my picture didn't survive the size reduction well. On the left it says- Typical bosch style relay (I use Bosch 0 332 209 138)
The numbers on relay are- bottom 30, middle 87a, top 87, left side 86, right side 85.

Right, if you hook up the tranny rev switch and a toggle switch you can turn the reverse lights on whenever you need them without going in to reverse, yet they'll still come on whenever you go into reverse as well.

The relay is a real good idea if you are running more than a couple of regular small backup lights. Same for fog lights, electric fans, etc. Any high draw, high amp application should use a relay.
