    3/4 ton chevy axles
Post by bigmech on Oct 21, 2006, 7:35pm

I just bought A set of axles from a 3/4 ton suburban that was a fire chief's vehicle untill a tree fell on the roof. It is a "c" clip type axle but is still an eight bolt pattern. Will this set up work in the 725 I just bought from Oil can? Will the springs clear the brake parts being its from a suburban? THese are the 3:73 ratio and about 4,000 miles on them . The guy trew in his diesel 3/4 ton truck rolling chassis also with axles still intact but much higher milage. What is a dummy to do?

You want to put a lighter duty axle on the M725?
Also these are not fullfloaters in the rear, so even weaker. Imho waste of time and money at least.

3.73 for anything bigger than 33 inch tires is tooo long. Off road its even worse. Wouldnt recommend this swap.

As far as I know you will be the first using that setup, I would be concerned about the large tire on the small axle more than the gear ratio. There again they run 38s on 1/2 ton trucks all the time. So if your building a daily driver for road driving break out the tape measure it knows if it will work.
I'm running a 3.54 3/4 ton set out off a j20 with 36" h1 army tires. (full floater)The gearing is fine for a daily driver but for any real off road running this setup would eat driveshafts. The good thing was it was a easy swap. The rear end was a direct bolt up. The truck was one with fender flairs I got them from. The older jeep axles were narrower. Good Luck

    You've got the semi-float 14 bolt. It's ok in 3/4t Burbs, but......

I'd hold out for a 44/14bolt if I were you. So there.
