    Default power steering

I currently have full hydraulic steering on my Kaiser with rockwell axles with the stock steering column.I want to make this rig more streetable so I want to upgrade to mechanical with hydraulic assist. It is powered by a small block with a stock power steering pump now. What steering box/tie rod set up and pitman arm would work best.

    Thanks for any info.

A stock steering box from any Wagoneer mid 70's thru early 80's will bolt up, but you'll need to drill and sleeve the frame to use the fourth bolt on the P/S box.

The boxes cast with a "76" seem to be the most desirable for strength.

As far as the pitman arm, it depends if you are stock ride height or lifted.

Do a quick search and you'll find plenty of info about different swaps others have done here and a lot of little details as well. I am sure other folks will chime in too with more particular details.

The "800" or 76-cast box was used in CJs too. Be sure to compare the other important factors. I have seen many of these boxes with the same casting numbers and casting, but different numbers of turns lock-to-lock, different ratios, and different input shaft dims.

We always consider weight of vehicle, tire size, scrub ratio, amount of travel lock-to-lock, and intended vehicle usage. Many times we use a 8x1.75 cylinder with a .750 diameter shaft.
