Correct carburetor kit found!!! (Holley 1920)
    Post by binfordm715 on May 25, 2006, 11:55pm

Well I think I really scored here! I found a site as dedicated to old carbutetors and sundry car parts as we are dedicated to M715s! In an e-mail exchange with their Grand Poobah, I gave him all the numbers off my M715 carburetor and he said he found the exact kit for it, their CK537, which he even has in stock. It ain't cheap, but not too bad. $41.71 plus shipping. Here's a link to it:

    http://www.partschoice.com/carbs/kits/CK537.htm

He said he'll put up a pic for it soon.

I also asked him about that plastic "pump operating lever" and he said that while he doesn't have any on hand, he can probably get some. So keep that in mind.

He invited us to link to him too. There's the rebuild kit link above and their main link is: http://www.carburetor.ca

He wants to add the M715 to his data list. Am I correct in telling him that the Holley 1920 was installed in all '67 to '69 model years? Or was there a change part way through? Or was there even an alternative OEM carb installed on some? I'd like to pass on as detailed (and correct) info on that as I can. Anyone know for sure?

In my research I found that no one kit had the correct gaskets. I have book from Borg-Warner that break the kits down to pics of the individual components and a lot were close, but something was always missing. I found two kits for a Mopar Slant 6 with the same carb that would give you what you need, but they were expensive and not worth it. Believe it or not, I think my swap to a 318 V8 is cheaper, lol. The vent gasket and the baseplate gasket were the main ones that I had problems with if I remember correctly. Not that there may be a kit out there somewhere through another source that will work, but I couldn't find anything with what I had to work with. Just my .02

The entire G890 series, M715, M724,, M725, and M726 trucks, came with the 1920 Holley. I do not know if there is a difference in the later carbs, on the governor equipped trucks for sure, but the parts manual shows only 1 type being used.

I also agree with El that several kits have been found only to have missing or wrong gaskets and other issues....

It would be great if this is the correct kit...I would be happy to link it if so...let me know...are you ordering one?

The arm in question on the side is the accelerator pump actuator...gives a shot of gas when accelerating to get going without hesitation...sucks when they break and there is that ever present bog on take off...

I wasn't going to order one, since I have pretty much all I need now. I will ask the guy for a picture of all the parts included so we can figure out if it's actually a correct kit.

Yeah, that's the part he said he didn't have, but could probably get. Anyone need one? Ask him to see if he can!

I will check with him later. I'm trying to make a new one out of 1/8" thick aluminum. I logged in to check pics you guys posted in the previous thread...

You know, Jon.... I think you can hold your breath now! This looks spot-on right to me!

What do y'all think? The only thing I haven't found a use for yet is the round gasket. What's that used for? And why the two base gaskets? I think my kit came with two as well. Are they for different options, or are they supposed to be sandwiched together?

Anyway, here's the website, if you want to look at a larger view of that image. This is what that kit contains.

Let me know if you see anything wrong with this kit. Anything missing? Anything extra?

IIRC you need the base gasket on the right. Been there and done that and the wrong one won't let your idle circut function.
As far as the round one, it looks too small to be the carb to snorkle gasket, but it's been a while since I've looked at one. Proportions just don't look right.

Yeah, there's a hole in the base of the carburetor that one of those notches would fit over.
