I know this is a little off topic from original question, but do I need to put a jack under the motor to take the timing chain cover off?

No, I wouldn't think so, as the military Tornado engine uses mounts that fasten to the block itself, instead of the goofy front plate used on the civilian version.

I'm not close to the garage, so I pulled up this photo thinking that you might be worried about a clearance problem with the frame.

Okay the freeze plugs on the front seem to be in good shape but the gasket was completely gone. It was basically glued on with rtv. Could this cause the contamination?

Faulty timing cover gasket? No, there wouldn't be any interface with the coolant.
How does the timing cover look behind the pump impeller?
