    12 volt conversion$?

    Hey Guys,
thank you all for making this such an entertaining and useful website. I own a 67 M715 and it has been out of commision because of a faulty generator. I did not have the $400.00+ for another one, but i found one on e-bay for $85.00. I am a full time college student with two kids and a wife, so money is not always available. I finally talked my wife into letting me buy the generator on e-bay and when it came in it worked only to get me to the DMV to get the thing registered. Now I am Stuck with two generators that do not work and a very upset wife. I was wondering how much would it cost to convert my M715 to a 12 volt system, and how do I do it?
    Thanks

Ivan, did you try adjusting the voltage regulator yet?

On the pulley end in the generator there is a recessed hex pipe plug, you remove that and turn the small screw inside to adjust it. You could go by the green area on the in dash gauge, but I prefer to use a multimeter connected to the large lead coming out of the generator. You want 28.8 volts.

Hope this helps, surely someone else will chime in with 12v conversion info.

    Welcome to the madness.
Get a 12V coil and have your starter converted to 12V.
Change all your bulbs and drive it.
Memphis equipment is where I got the coil
A local alternator shop rewound the starter.
I think I got around $160.00 in it.
