    Dropping tank, cleaning process?
    Post by maddawg308 on Jul 13, 2006, 10:00am

Will be dropping the gas tank this weekend. External condition is light surface rust in some places, but solid. I am expecting the internal condition to be pretty good, since it has always had a cap on it. Gas tank is empty.

What's the best way you have all found to clean the tank and seal it to prevent future internal corrosion? Any products you would recommend?

Find a radiator shop that can run your tank through the process called:

    RENU

That is THE best thing going.

Is the RENU the stuff that puts a ceramic coating on the inside of the tank?

I ordered the por 15 tank restoration kit before I dropped mine. I looked inside no rust anywhere just clean galvanized looking metal, and a very clean shiny pickup tube with screen. I will not be doing the Por 15, just adding a 12 volt sending unit for the 12 volt conversion coming up. Your tank might be just as clean. Fisherman

My tank was just like that fisherman...and I did what you did too...thogh I had the outside sanblasted for the rust spots, not bad really, and then painted with an enamel base and had it rhino lined on the outside.

I de rusted mine, and then painted it, I think I will use some nice undercoating on it. It was just too clean to warrant putting in any kind of sealer.
