a little play in the ring and pinion or in the spider gears in the rear axle could also cause a noise like that, . .another possibililty is if a drive flange nut is loose, . .it will mimic a bad u-joint, but the u-joints are good, . ..

The noise just went away. Drove the truck all summer and never heard it agian. I do not think it was the T-Case.

any wheel cyl's seeping or axle seals? they usually cause grabbing though or rust on the drums? might just take and hit the shoes and drums with some sandpaper while you have them off and see it it might be something like that for some odd reason

Pulled the rear drums tonight - no leaking cyl. Put them back on and readjusted the star wheels. Hope that fixes her up.

Mine, too. Always at stop signs. In or out of gear. Clutch in or out. No difference.

The repetition sequence of the noise was at the same speed as wheel revolution. Remember: the T-case is spinning 5.89 times faster than the wheels.

Pulled the drums and discovered almost new rear shoes. Cleaned and adjusted per manual. Still there. Then......poof! Gone. No noise.

This might be a chapter for "Five Quarter Quirks-The Sequel".
