Thread: bracket over hub

  1. #1

    Default bracket over hub

does anyone know what the roundish brackets that are bolted on the hub are for?

They are for stowing the truck (i.e. lashing down to a rail car or boat) and can also be used as a field expedient winch of sorts, just stick a screw driver, jack handle, or other round bar through and put your tow strap on it and spin the tires... doesn't really work that good though. Atleast in my experience.

They DO work well when your truck is not running and you have to stick a big prybar through them to roll your truck onto a trailer.

Don't ask me how I know that.

They are also wonderful for ripping the trim off your garage door as you drive it in for the very first time. That and whacking your shins on as you install various parts during your rebuild....

You take the shackles out of the bumpers and install them onto those brackets to use them for lashing down. See-10 tm.

Funny Rich, I used mine to move the truck around in the yard till I get the motor and trans working.

As far as the makeshift winch, years ago I buried mine pretty deep. Spent two hours with two other vehicles trying to get it out, even ripped the cross member out of one of the other vehicles. Anyway, used both rear wheels, one strap and a tree and I was out 30 seconds after I put it in reverse.

Not a real smooth operation, but it worked.
