Thread: hub bolts?

  1. #1

    Default hub bolts?

Now that I have added my Selectro lockout hubs, the hub bolts (studs) that held the hub protectors are way too long. Who knows the bolt length size and pitch for the shorter hub studs.

If I don't change them, I am going to start removing skin from my knuckles activating my forward axle.

The nuts on the studs are 7/16" fine thread. The studs going into the hubs are 7/16" coarse thread. I don't remember how long I made mine. I think 1-1/2". You will need to run a tap down the hole to clean up the threads after you pull the studs. I would suggest you pull the studs, run a tap down the threads and see how far down the tap goes before it bottoms out. Measure that and add in the thickness of the Selectro.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

    What I ended up doing:
I could not find studs in 7/16 with both 14tpi and 28tpi.
So, I bought 12 2 inch studs in 14tpi, with a black oxide coating.
I also bought a box of 25 nuts with a black oxide coating.

Should work just fine. The stocker short studs were 2 inch.

Ordered all the stuff from McMaster Carr on Wednesday, and it got here today (Thursday). , thats fast.

But its rainy and I had kid duty, so I won't get them on the truck until tomorrow.
