Thread: Pistons for a 230 Tornado?

    My Spanish is horrible, but possibly you could search for a facebook or another fan page for the tornado engine in Argentina/ South America? Just a last ditch idea- gonz

    But yes, I've been toying with that idea, particularly with that 230 being used for quite awhile in Argentina in the Tornino cars.
    From what I've seen on the Argentina eBay site (yes, there is such a thing), the compression ratio is much lower, and the pistons have a lot less dome to them. Not that this engine is a powerhouse, but I don't want to cripple it if I can avoid it.
    The Google translate feature of Chrome is phenomenal. It's not 100% perfect, but it at least makes the page readable.

    And no big hurry, the engine has been out of my truck for nearly a year now..... a few extra days isn't going to hurt!

    The pistons were not where I thought that I had put them.
    Only thing that I accomplished today, was making some wasps angry while looking for them.
    I have one more building to look through tomorrow.

    Sounds like me, Dan. On both accounts. I moved from MD to FL after living in the same house in Maryland. It had a basement and one-car garage. Can you imagine the storage issue that I have here in Florida (read: no basements)?

    "I know I have it but where did I put it???"

    As for the wasps, I got stung walking past a nest that I didn't see, hanging on an air conditioner at the airport. Carburetor cleaner gave them a bad day.

    Here goes. This is an old method for wornout blocks. Have it bored out and new Sleves installed. Good experienced machine shop should be able to do it. I would shoot for one that has been in business for a while. You can go right back to Orginal Bore and use your orginal pistons. You need to check closely the ring grove wear. Put the new ring on the piston and use a feeler gauge to check. Old "Motor" repair manuals had the procedure in them. Normally not a problem but one of those things to check. Beats pulling and tearing the engine down.

    If Dan is unable to find his, PM me. I currently in the process of having an engine rebuilt and came across a couple local motors. I'm not an expert, but they seem in pretty good shape. Paul
