The top of the rockers are spot welded along the top flange where it butts against the floor pan flange. There is also a seam at the curved portion on the front and rear. The bottom is spot welded along the part where it curves under and attaches to the inner rocker.

If you search the forums you will find pictures of my custom 1/4" plate steel rockers. Fully welded to the undercab supports. They will never rust through or be dented. It was easier to do this than weld in stock type rockers.

A small grinder such as a dremel or die grinder through just one layer worked for me, if you will be removing the rest of the metal. Grinding can leave big holes though. You can also get a spot weld cutter, a drill bit in essence. That will leave a hole small enough to re-weld.

Rotabroach makes some really nice spot weld cutters that leave a clean hole and remove the entire weld.
