Thread: NAPA Valve Cover Gasket

  1. #1

    Default NAPA Valve Cover Gasket

The 230 valve cover cover gasket is no longer stocked at NAPA. They can order one with the new number VS50258C. $10.59 plus special order shipping. The thicker one is no longer available at all. They are not sure how long the standard one will be available.

Standard is 5/32" and is available. Thick is 7/32" and is no longer available. When I get it, I'll post any relevant info about it.

Does this look right? It seems to be correct looking at the valve cover on the engine but without removing the cover, I can't tell. It is cork

Unfortunately, that's not the correct gasket. The 230 OHC gasket is a moulded rubber arrangement that fits over the lip of the valve cover. There are no holes in the gasket.

    Default Good Old NAPA

Automotive stuff is not my vocation but I will say this. In my dealings with NAPA both locally and online have not been good. They must have the most antiquated IT system out there. You can look up the same engine and get different results. I just looked again and that gasket is shown as the one for the 230 CID early-mid 60's engine. I had the same problem with thermostat gaskets and fuel pump gaskets.

Another point on the gasket...one long side is dead straight...

Here's one on ebay but it looks somewhat dried out from the picture.

How about Memphis Equipment or AB Linn for the gasket.

You are correct. Ding a reverse lookup with Fel-Pro shows this gasket for the 232. Not the 230 the NAPA site shows. (no refunds on special orders even if their site is wrong)
