Default bluesman2a : Stock Tank with CUCV Axles?

    Stock Tank with CUCV Axles?
    Post by bluesman2a on Jun 18, 2006, 8:16pm

Finally got driveshafts installed this weekend. For other people running CUCV's are your D/S's too close to the stock tank? This sure does look too close for comfort.

For reference, the shaft is 3" and the space between it and the lip of the tank is about a finger-width.

Anybody have thoughts/advice on this one?

Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

Truthfully, It probably will be fine, but a tank in the rear would probably make me more comfortable.

Well you could always have the tank modified by moving the side wall in an inch or so....or see if you can move it over a bit. Maybe shorten the filler tube to allow you to move it to the side by an inch or so. Just a couple of ideas. The instillation looks good though!

Glad you posted this before I spend the money havin my tank re-lined. It shouldn't be too hard to remove the side from the tank about one inch from the edge. While open, it could be bead blasted really well, and then welded back together at whatever width you deem neccessary. You'll lose some tank capacity, but I wouldn't be comfy with the drive shaft that close.

Some people have left it like your picture and had no problems that I can recall. Others have had the stock tank cut some. Some have had new stainless tanks made while other have move the stock tank over. It all depends on what makes you comfortable.
