Am curious to learn abut the stars on the M715. I know back in WW2 they had a circle around the star and called it the "invasion star". Any one know what that meant? Was that specific to MV's in that war?

If you do a search in this forum and the stock forum you will find a ton of info on the star and other markings.

Invasion stars were put on planes and vehicles, etc. that took place in the Normandy Invasion.

It was my understanding that Invasion stars were used, because some German units had taken to applying stars to their vehicles in order to "fool" the American pilots into thinking they were US vehicles.

Without the circle around the outside of the star, the vehicle in question was a fair target from the air.

Some Invasion stars were also painted in the area surrounding the star between the circle with a chemical reacting paint that turned red when exposed to chemical agents like nerve gas. Apparently it didn;t work well, because engine heat also changed the color too.

And they were strictly a WWII thing.

Also, another important thing to point out that most people miss when they mark thier trucks is that after WWII the hood stars face forward instead of towards the windshield. This is one of the most common mistakes, and I assume that it has to do with seeing so many pics of WWII vehicles with the star towards the windshield.
