    Default engines

I've narrowed it down to either a 6 cylinder 4 liter Jeep cherokee engine which is the one from the smaller cherokees or 6.2l GM diesel from a CUCV.

I drove a 715 with the 6.2 in it and it was nice. I'd go that route.

I would also recommend the 6.2, . ..well-maintained they are a very durable engine, with decent power and economy. The 4.0 is not much bigger than the 230, although a much more modern design, they still aren't going to gain much in economy hauling around the weight of the M-715. I have a 292 Chevy in mine, and could still use a little more power when hauling loads in the hills. . .my 3.5 cents worth (inflation, you know). . .

diesel - less complicated than the 4.0. If you do the 4.0, you have to worry about the computer, sensors, etc.

My "vote" is for the 6.2 should produce more torque, better fuel economy too.

If you had to choose between the 6.2 and 6.5, which is better.

I have found some Frito trucks with the 6.5 and the TH400, 4L80E and Allison AT542 trannys.

I did find some 4bt with the TH400 trannys. Look on Dovebid.com

6.5 was better all things being equal-which they rarely are--I put a SM420 in my rig instead of a SM465 because the 420 was free
