Thread: Are all these copper plated?

Default Are all these copper plated?

The gas filler is/was copper plated on my truck. This is what it looked like after the media blasting. I had to leave the filler on the truck so media did not get in to the tank. I did take the bolts out to get blasted behind the brackets.

No, I assure you it is not paint. Are they all like this or did someone do this in the past?

Yes, they or at least some are....mine was when I blasted it.

My filler neck seemed to have been originally galvanized, but most of the zinc had corroded much like an old bucket.

Was it possibly for static supression when filling? Copper is a good conductor though, so that may not be the case.....

If my truck has a copper plating, I'm stripping and polishing it, as that's pretty neat. It might look a little goofy.

probably did it so the filler neck would be non-sparking.
