Just curious..... when I moved my final drive all I did was .... move the final drive by installing the yoke on the Ebrake drum. Why did you have to do all that other
"stuff". Or did you do it NOT in relation to the final drive move?

, I completely sstripped out my transfer case cos the bearings, seals, etc needed to be changed.
I dont neeed the handbrake because I've changed theengine and gearbox on my truck to Mitsubishi. My problem is when I'm assembling the brake output shaft/Rear Axle shaft I cannot for some reason preload the bearings??Hint: Direct Support and General Support Maintenance Manual chapter 12 fig.12-7, checking preload on output shaft bearings.

Did you read step 8 outlined below figure 12-7?

You're just trying to tighten the assembly until you have 15-30 inch pounds of drag as it turns.

The preload is checked WITHOUT the oil seal installed. The yoke nut must be torqued to spec. Also, the spacer, and various shims that are on the shaft between the bearings are what determines the preload. More shims allows the the shaft to be "looser" , less preload; conversely, less shims or thinner shims puts more of a preload on the bearings. the force to rotate the shaft should be in the inch pound range. Once you get the proper preload, remove the U joint flange and install the seal, reinstall the flange and torque the nut to spec.
