Thread: New motor?

    Default New motor?

    Hey all,

I was looking through Military Vehicles Mag the latest issue and on page 118 I think it was there was a small add for a guy in MI selling a 1972 new in the create from AMG 203 motor for the M715. He was only asking $1500 (unless that is a misprint).

I guess I find it hard to believe that there would be such a thing out there and that someone would let it go for a resonable price....I would think a brand new create motor is as rare as hens teeth.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it anyone on the list?

    You mean a 230 motor?

That would be the cheapest I have heard of for such a motor...only heard of a handful in the crate and all were over $3000...

if thats the case thats a steal, someone should jump on this if they want a stock motor, you couldnt rebuild one for that!!!

Here is how the add reads.

"MILITARY ENGINE. This is a new in the box M-715 1-1/4 ton jeep pickup. 230cu.in. overhead camshaft type short block engine built in 1973 by AM General Corp. It has never been unsealed from its crate. $1,500."

Then it gives the phone number and location as MI.

What I didn't realize till now is that it's a short block... which means it doesn't have the starter, altinator, carb, probably not even the manifolds...but still new in the create not a bad deal.

    Wont have the head then?

Maybe $1500 is a fair price, roughly, then.
