    Default 24v fuel sending unit

    will a 24v sending unit work on 12v?

    It would if you could find a gauge that has the same scale as the mil sending unit and would work on 12 volts...there isnt one.

    The fuel tank sending unit is basically a vriable resistor...as the float moves up and down, there is more or less resistance to current flow...like there is a larger resistor when at one end of movement and a smaller one at the other...
    You an think of it like a dimmer switch on a light...you dial the rheostat and more or less current flows...so the light is brighter or dimmer...here the more or less the arm is raised, the more or less current goes to the gauge to move the needle.

    This is why the voltge at the sender is unimportant...the sender is just a variable resistor.

    Just thought I would explain that part...
