Thread: Axles that can be swapped in place of the stock axles

okay...didn't see it in here, but what is the WMS to WMS of the stock M715 axles (both front and rear)?

Figure I'm going to end up replacing mine soon since it's cheaper than new 4.56 gears in the existing ones. I won't actually end up careing about spring perch locations since I can just fab up replacements for the new axles and put them wherever I need to.

    Good read.
Is the d60/14b from a CUCV near the top of the list?
I would rather pay once-cry once and get what is best/strongest/etc.

Would CUCV axles and HMMWV wheels be a good way to go?

Grrrrrrrrrrr. Never mind. Found a very old post which explained why not.
Maybe Rockwells with the 8 bolt conversion, then use HMMWV wheels.
That is IF Wildwood or whoever it was working on the conversion 2-3 years ago ever got it to market.

Since I'm doing a major restoration, I wanted to wind up with axles that have many modern options for gearing, lockers, and will withstand larger tires. Add to this from what I hear the older axles are reported to be marginal for long trips, and may not have up to date metallurgy.

Very nice. Now if those Super 8 conversions will provide similar track width with HMMWV wheels (and work with them) then we may be nearer to a winner.
