Do you have to know of a source for individual engine gaskets?
BESTgasket shows many individual sets besides their complete overhaul set.

Just got to find a retailer
    https://bestgasket.com/distributors/

I would try Walks4wd first, as they had the best price on the complete set at the time I was needing a set.

Timing cover set for military 230 ordered from Walck's.

You're a lifesaver, Dan-- thanks again.

Just drained the coolant, and while standing there checking things, formulating a plan, I found the water pump bearings have some looseness in them. It does not leak, however.

Time for new water pump, isn't it...?

    Nuts...

Yeah, it's time: 3/16" +- side-to-side play at the fan blade tips is a enough of a failure criterion for me.

I've found replacements at Memphis ($$), Surplus City ($), and Willys Jeep Parts ($$$)-- any other sources out there?

A couple of questions after reviewing the timing cover and crankshaft pulley removal and installation procedures:

    1. What is the "fabricated tool" used to hold the chain tensioner out of the way while installing the cover? I can't find any further reference to it in the manual, and I know it'll be essential to getting that cover back on.

    2. According to the manual, I need the same puller tool to reinstall the pulley as needed to remove it. Can't that pulley just be lined up with the key, seated, and then tightened down with the bolt?

    Thanks for any help.

Yea, the manual doesn't give any dimensions for such a tool.

After trial and error, I cut a 1/4"x 2 1/4" rectangle from a piece of a wooden paint stirring stick.

I'm going to post a picture showing it in use during my engine assembly, as soon as imgur.com is working correctly.
I can't access my photos on that website tonight

I made a tool to install the engine pulley/dampener. See if I can find it to get a photo.
If I remember correctly, the bolt isn't long enough to start the pulley on, and you don't want to pound it on, as the trust bearing surface could be damaged.

It sounds like I might be able to use a longer bolt to start the pulley onto the crankshaft.

    Surplus City update:

They do not stock M715 water pumps as indicated on their website; they can be special ordered for $450+-.

    Good grief!
Special order? They probably get them from Memphis Equipment, then add all to that California tax to it.

The piece of wood holds the tensioner to the side until the cover is on, then using a pair of needle nose plyers, carefully pull the wood out through the little window.
