i have read several posts about shorting the jack shaft to fit after a transmission swap and wanted to offer my solution. i went to my local driveshaft shop with my old jack shaft and gave him my new u-joint to j-joint measurement and ask him to shorten it like every body else does. he offered a solution that i thought was great. a short slip yoke. it allows for easy install and allows about 1 inch of movement each way (in & out).

there is no pn on the slip yoke and is not spicer. he said that all of the city of tyler texas trash trucks have the hydro pump on the front of the truck behind the bumper. this short slip yoke attaches to the pump & the crankshaft of the engine. so, do your biz with a shop that works on trash trucks. total cost of the slip yoke was about 80.00.....al

Put one in mine when I swapped in the SM420. Had to make mine longer but as you said it makes changing it out alot easier. Nice if you happen to be out and fubar a ujoint. I carry spare joints but even if a guy doesnt he would be far ahead to know the numbers on the ones he has in his truck.
